Default Locking seems too often

Why does the ladder lock so often nowadays? Does it have any particular reason or is it just to give out more and more silver capes? I hate what happens to GvG near the lock and during it - namely almost all the top guilds doing some horrible build to get as much rating as possible in the smallest space of time. During the lock, all the jokebuilds come out and nothing really is taken seriously apart from the odd test-build. Whyyyyyyy? The next 1 and a half weeks are gonna be so borinngggg. :|

Why are you so upset. Your profile says you have no guild.

Anyways the ladder locks so that the Guild Wars World Championships can take place and the top guilds do not get a very late start into the ladder season and have to make a big come from behind.

Locks are done during tournaments, just wait until the tournament is over and maybe try out some untested builds.

The ladder is part of the tournament. By playing ladder matches you are entering the tournament, presumably to win. The tournament has seasons. During times when the tournament reaches its "finals" phase, it is closed for all but the teams who have qualified, naturally enough. It is off season, Apart from those 16 guilds who are left in the competition.

What I would suggest, unless every member of your guild is Factions UAX, is to get in there and play as much GvG as you can, as with so much henchway and build testing going on it is really, really easy to earn faction at a considerably higher rate than usual. if I was you I'd run my best build and farm that faction for all it is worth. If that doesnt appeal then you can always play tombs, which although exceedingly silly and pointless is kind of fun in small doses and also a nice source of faction.

Ladder is locked when the season is over. It's then reset before the new season starts.

Not a difficult concept.

Its not a difficult concept, but what i dont see is why they cant leave it run a little longer. For the game-observer or the top 16 guilds, sure its interesting but for the rest of us its not particularly fun. Even if you do beat a team in the lock, theres no excitement of where in the ladder you may come and no disappointment when you lose, so i dont feel that GvG is interesting at all. Couldnt ANet just let the rest keep playing whilst the top 16 guilds fight it out? I mean i was top50 this season before [HUMP] got banned (dont ask) and striving for higher places is fun. Getting +0, -0 on the status isnt fun at all.

Time to dust off that holding build and have a little IWAY-killing fun. (It's profitable too because sigils still sell for a decent sum.)

the season is supposed to be about equal footing. You can't let the people who didn't make the playoffs start early, that would like the NHL teams that aren't in the playoffs right now complaining that they can't start the regular season early ahead of the teams still in the playoffs. This is off season and it's time to practice your skills and figure out new strategies for when the new season begins.
